Jordan Rudess Releases Captivating Music Video for "The Final Threshold" as Part of New Album "Permission To Fly"
DREAM THEATER keyboardist and virtuoso Jordan Rudess has dropped the official music video for his latest single, "The Final Threshold." This track is featured on his newly released solo album, "Permission To Fly," which came out in September through InsideOut Music. The visual accompaniment, crafted by the talented Wayne Joyner, utilizes Lightricks’ innovative LTX Studio software, elevating the song’s ethereal qualities in a way that resonates deeply with audiences. "Step into ‘The Final Threshold’ with this stunning video created by my friend Wayne Joyner! His work, combined with Lightricks’ amazing software, has brought this song from my solo album to life in a truly next-level experience," expresses Rudess, extending his gratitude to both Joyner and Lightricks for their support.
Known for his experimental approach and unwavering commitment to pushing creative and technological boundaries, Rudess’s latest project encapsulates his artistic ethos—exploring the complexities of human existence in our diverse and ever-changing world. As he reflects on the themes of the album, he states, "The essence of the album is deeply informed by the tumultuous events of 2023-2024, with motifs of peace and anti-violence interwoven throughout many of the tracks."
Diverging from his previous solo pursuits, Rudess has collaborated with a core group of musicians for this album, including That Joe Payne on vocals, Darby Todd (of DEVIN TOWNSEND fame) on drums, and Steve Dadaian on guitar, alongside guest appearances by guitarist Bastian Martinez. To add a personal touch to the album, Rudess turned to his daughter, Ariana, to write the lyrics. "All the lyrics on the album were written by my daughter, Ariana. While I usually focus on the sonic quality of the words, I wanted to delve deeper this time, and Ari did an exceptional job," he shares.
The album "Permission To Fly" is available as a limited CD digipak and gatefold 180g 2LP, both of which include bonus material, as well as digital versions.

He is a key member of the platinum-selling, Grammy Award-winning band DREAM THEATER. A classical prodigy, Rudess began his musical studies at the prestigious Juilliard School of Music at the tender age of 9, establishing a solid foundation for his career that seamlessly blends classical and rock influences.
Beyond DREAM THEATER and the powerhouse group LIQUID TENSION EXPERIMENT, Rudess’s impressive collaborations span a wide array of genres and notable artists, including DEEP PURPLE, David Bowie, Steven Wilson, and Jan Hammer.
