The EIBON Project: An Unfinished Journey

Reflecting on past collaborations, Satyr recently opened up about the ill-fated EIBON project, which sought to bring together an impressive lineup including Philip Anselmo of Pantera, Fenriz from Darkthrone, and Kiljoy of Necrophagia. Despite intention and talent, the project was compromised due to Anselmo’s struggles with addiction, leading to its eventual disintegration.

In a candid conversation with Landry.Audio, Satyr expressed his desire to revive the EIBON project, noting, "Every time when my brother Philip and I meet, we talk about it. So that’s surely something that we would love to do." He reflected on the challenges they faced while trying to create music together. "But frankly speaking, it was Philip’s addiction at the time that ruined this whole project," he stated, underscoring the difficulties of working in such a volatile environment.

Despite the setbacks, Satyr cherishes his friendship with Anselmo and their shared creative history. "I consider Philip one of my very best friends and an outstanding musician," he articulated, echoing hope for future collaborations.

A Look Back at Collaboration

Anselmo himself has acknowledged the challenges of the EIBON endeavor, expressing admiration for Satyr’s work ethic and vision. Their shared experiences, from thrilling musical ambitions to personal hurdles, have fostered a unique bond between these two heavyweights in the metal scene.

Philip Anselmo on Johnny "Satyr" Wongraven: “Satyr was always a hard worker; he was the guy who led. I found it interesting from a musician’s standpoint. We played primitive black metal… it was a fresh, unexpected challenge within the genre. I fucking loved it!”

As fans continue to rally behind these legendary artists, one can only hope that the essences of their past collaborations will inspire new music in the future.
