    Great tuner
It’s a tuner. It’s a boss. What could go wrong? This thing is great, works well, easy to use, very intuitive and easy to read. I’ve been waiting to buy a pedal tuner for some time now to replace the clip on tuners (though they still have their place) and finally decided on this especially with a recent sale. Great item, I expect it to last a long time like my other boss pedals.

Double duty pedal, tuner and a splitter
When I’m playing at home, I play with a Peavey Vypyr amp. Those amps have terrible tuners. Never seems to pick up the correct note on my guitar. This tuner is much better. Easy configuration, you can set it for guitar or chomatic or flat steps down, etc. The interface is super easy to read. I personally like the style where it looks like the LEDs are spinning right/left for sharp/flat, but they have the standard off from center tuning that most tuners use. All in all, this is a great tuner pedal, and I’m very happy with it. It does what it does very well. The thing I really like about this tuner is that there is an output and a bypass. Output gets cut when the pedal is active. If you are playing live, this is the one you will want to use. Bypass never gets cut. It’s great for at home or if you are tuning somebody else to your instrument. But there’s another awesome use for it; you can use it as a splitter and run your signal through 2 amps. This is fantastic for recording. Setting one amp up for the low end and another amp up for the high end and then mixing them together in the studio software makes for a very full sounding recording. If you want to run the same effects, put the tuner last, if you want to run different effects, put the tuner first.

    More than I needed
This is an awesome tuner with lots of cool additional features for all kinds of tuning capabilities. Nice bright display is easy to see and the floor pedal format is great. You can also power other pedals through this unit if you get the A/C power supply. I use mine with 9Volt and very happy with performance. I do a lot of open tunings so a must have for live performances. Very happy with purchase.

    Great product
If using the battery power mode, don’t forget to unplug the input cable when finished so your battery will not deploy!

    the best
Best tuner.I’m on my second of this pedal and there’s a reason:-I only needed a new one as my old one was stolen during a break-in of my car while crossing the country, NOT because the pedal went bad or broke or anything. In fact, the old one looked almost brand new after several years of reliable service (had it since…2010?)Why I chose it again :-Power-hopping is the best feature when you have a pedal board. I don’t have a tangle of cables left and right, and even without a board, I could still link all of my pedals together, run them off of this pedal, and only have needed ONE ac charger! Priceless.-Rugged chassis has held-up to everything. I took this pedal to Afghanistan, used it daily for an entire year, and brought it back like nothing had happened! I’ve dropped it as many times as you can count and never had a problem :)-Tuning is spot-on and having the option to tune by strings or experience alternative tuning in a flash has been great! The options of using strobe-tune vs. the traditional roving bar or line have been fun to two with as well. The more accurate my tuning, the happier I am. Guess what? This unit does it in spades!Do yourself a favor and get this pedal.

    What needs to be said?
This thing works great!I play out live in clubs and this device is indispensable. Accurate and quick – great for between song quick tuning. It’s a Boss pedal – so it is rugged and reliable.I have seen this pedal on the pedal boards of top touring pros, recording artists and session musicians in and around the Dallas and North Texas area. I play locally and regionally in North Texas and see this pedal on almost EVERY guitarist and bassist’s boards every night.Great product – well made – worth every penny.** UPDATE **After using this tuner for a month I can say that I made the right decision.Fantastic product that every guitar player needs – period.** ** ** ** ** ** *EDIT 10-23-2012I have purchased another one of these tuners for an alternate pedal board. These really are the best tuners out there – you should get one today! There is no comparison to anything else out there – nothing – I have looked!

  10. Richard

I see what all the fuss is about the TU-3 tuner pedal. I’ve held off buying one for ages and finally decided I needed to finish my pedal board with one.It has multiple tuning modes and display options, will easily deal with 7-string guitars and 5-string basses, and will allow drop tunings directly from the front panel using the mode control. One creative use I intend to put it to is to act as a signal splitter for effects pedals since there are two outputs, “output” and “bypass”. This means I can have two FX chains behind it, in my case one vintage and one modern. It runs from standard 9v PP3 batteries or from a wall-wart power supply that is *not* provided. Fortunately for me, I always intended to power it from a power brick (in my case a TrueTone 1Spot) using the adapter cable that TrueTone provides, attached to an outlet that can provide 12v. The fact that it can pass along power to other Boss pedals is a major plus, and it will even feel older Boss pedals because I believe it steps down the power to conform to older pedals. It certainly powers my old compressor/sustainer pedal also made by Boss, using a simple daisychain cable. The display can be switched to a higher brightness so that it’s visible in sunlight, but the power draw of the pedal really leaps up if you do, from 30 milliamps to 85 milliamps. If you’re daisychaining other Boss pedals using the TU-3’s pass-thru power you’ll need to bear in mind that there will be less power available for those pedals in the daisychain. Similarly you will need to allow for this if you’re using a power brick PSU and switch to high brightness now and then. The enclosure is like all Boss compact pedals – tougher than boots and with everything, especially the battery compartment, easy as anything to access. It comes with a battery installed that has been used for testing. You’re recommended to keep a battery in there (it isn’t being used if there’s no instrument cable in the input) but since I don’t play live I just removed it.How does it lock on to the notes? Phenomenally well, quick even on the low B on both 7-string guitar and 5-string bass. I have a Korg Pitchblack rack tuner that I’ve long considered to be the canines cojones, and this definitely is the equal of that unit, and takes the capabilities a bit further with features like the various flatting options. It’s used all the time, and the option to use it on two signal paths makes some rudimentary pedal routing hacks available.
